Hickstead plays host to a number of competitions namely the show jumping Derby, Royal International Horse Show, National and Pony Club Jumping Championships as well as Polo and Dressage competitions.

The Hickstead Derby
The Derby itself has numerous showing classes as well as other Show Jumping classes but it is in the actual Show Jumping Derby that the very best horses and riders from around the world must negotiate the famous Derby Bank and Devils Dyke amongst many other very impressive jumps.

Qualification
All horse and rider combinations must be members of the British Show Jumping Association and depending on their grade will be eligible to enter various classes.

The Fences
The height of fences in the Derby is approximately 1.60 meters and the horses must travel at around 400 meters a minute to avoid time penalties with the aim of leaving all the fences up to ensure a clear round. The height and speed traveled in other show jumping classes will vary from class to class.

Location
The All England Jumping Course at Hickstead is located in Sussex between Gatwick Airport and Brighton just off the A23.

Dates
