This lovely looking horses is strong, powerful and economical, it is also a very willing friend.

Height
15 to 16 HH.

Colour
Roan, iron grey, liver chestnut and bay.

Conformation

  • A solid head with a kind eye, large ears and good sized nostrils.
  • The neck is short, stocky and very muscular.
  • The withers are moderately pronounced and the shoulders are upright and strong.
  • The girth is deep with ample chest room.
  • The legs are short and strong.
  • A short and strong back leads onto a powerful and well muscled hindquarter.
  • The tail is low set.
  • The main and tail are thick.
 

History
This horse takes its name from the Ardennes where it comes from, which is on the French and Belgium borders. It was originally used as a ridden horse and as a draught horse. Due to its sturdy conformation it was used as an artillery horse, as well as for the purposes of farming.
