Oliver Townend Wins The Land Rover Burghley Horse Trials

This years Land Rover Burghley Horse Trials has been won by Oliver Townend riding Carousel Quest who lead throughout the competition.

Despite very windy weather Oliver Townend performed an excellent dressage of 39.8 to put him in the lead after dressage with Andrew Nicholson and Nereo following closely behind on a score of 45.

Caroline Powell riding Lenamore also scored 45 for her dressage test and Phillip Dutton scored 45.3 riding Truluck.

This years cross country course was as demanding as ever with many riders finding the time difficult to make. Oliver Townend picked up 3.2 time penalties and remained at the top of the leader board.

Sam Griffiths, riding Happy Times was one of the few riders who managed to go around the course inside the time which moved them up into second position.

Caroline Powell riding Lenamore stayed in third position after going clear but picking up just a few time penalties.

The show jumping on Sunday allowed the leader board to be reshuffled with clear rounds proving to be very influential. Oliver Townend who led throughout the competition performed a beautiful clear round to remain at the top of the leader board. Polly Stockton who was in 6th place after the cross country also went clear riding Westwood Poser and moved up into second place on a final score of 51.7.

Sam Griffiths had one fence down and dropped one place into third place. And Caroline Powell had an unfortunate two fences down which dropped Lenamore into 8th place.
