Horse Markings
Horses can come with a variety markings on their legs, face, and body.

Horse Face Markings

  • Star
    A small often diamond shape of white in the centre of the forehead.
  • Stripe
    A long thin strip of white that starts in the centre of the forehead and travels down the face, it does not cover the nostrils.
  • Snip
    A small strip of white that is centrally positioned on the muzzle only.
  • White Face
    White covering the whole of the horses face including the eyes, nose and nostrils.
  • Blaze
    White begins in the centre of the forehead and travels down the centre of the face without going in to the eyes before covering the nostrils, the white is usually wider than a stripe would be.
 

Horse Leg Markings

  • Sock
    This is where white can be found going from the hoof wall to just above the fetlock joint.
  • Stocking
    White starts at the hoof and proceeds up the horses leg to just above the knee or hock.

Body Markings

  • Whorls
    This is where the horses coat changes direction forming a small circle or whorl of hair.
  • Spots
    This is where a small circular white spot appears on a darker coat colouring.
  • Freeze Brand
    A mark used for registering ownership or breed, Freeze Brands are often found just behind the wither or on the shoulder of the horse.
