Equine Wind Puffs In Horses
Also known as Wind Puffs these are soft fluid filled sacs that form around the tendon sheath of the fetlock joint.
Horses At Risk
Those with very upright pasterns will be prone to concussion and therefore from Wind galls.
Symptoms
Cold swelling around the fetlock joint.
Lameness is rare and usually indicates a deeper problem.
If the swellings are hot it can be a sign of degenerative joint disease.
Causes
Concussion can cause wind galls to appear.
Treatment
Once formed care must be taken with respect to not aggravating the windgalls further, as hard work especially of a concussive nature can cause he wind galls to increase in size due to the fetlock joint producing excessive joint fluid to compensate. |
