History
They were originally used as war horses in the middle ages, then in 1735 King George the 2 opened the state stud at Celle to help produce a horse that could be used as a carriage, military and work horse.The Hanoverian is based on the Holstein and Andalusian with Thoroughbred and Trakehner also added to produce a horse that has a great deal of scope and naturally good elastic paces. Over the years the trend for riding and sports horses has developed the Hanoverian into the warmblood we know today.
